Day 7: Good Eats

Eric and I both enjoy eating and cooking. Now I wouldn't call it a hobby, but we're big fans of food. Getting married has been great for that because we've gotten all sorts of new gadgets and ingredients that will help us create new things. This week I have been battling two of the worst cancer sores ever, cleverly positioned similar to a snake bite piercing. They have made it increasingly more difficult to eat and speak. In order to minimize the effect of pain from eating, I decided to use our fridge full of leftover fruit and juice along with our new blender to make a smoothie. GREAT SUCCESS! The food doesn't touch my lips when I use a straw!

We freeze any leftover smoothie in an ice cube tray, then all I have to do is blend it again to make a new smoothie.

On another note, we couldn't very well go through our first week of blogging as husband and wife without mentioning our good friend Dave Ramsey! We used to be fast-food-aholics and would buy whatever we happened to feel hungry for when we went shopping. Now that all of our money has a plan for it, we eat healthier and make better choices at the store. Today we made a shopping list with meals in mind, went shopping, and got 2+ weeks of food for $60. We've gone cheaper, but now that we're succeeding with money we can afford to have the "garden herb" tortillas instead of the plain ol' flour tortillas. Go us!

A full fridge!

This cookbook has some REALLY good recipes in it, all for less than $2.50 per serving! Wahoo!

Day 6: Time to Break It Down

This has been a very emotional week, full of errands, work and chores. I left my ID in Leslie's purse after our post-wedding Buffalo Wild Wings adventure and decided that I needed it back so I can start changing my name. We found out that Steven and Leslie just bought DJ Hero and now we're scratching the night away! Turns out we are all 4 pretty good at this and only getting better!

We used a DJ name generator- I am DJ SnackWell, Eric is DJ Aural, Steven is DJ W.M.D., and Leslie is DJ Vinyl Fetish! Haha!

Day 5: A New Family Dynamic

We've started cleaning up the house and putting gifts into their new shelves, cabinets, and rooms. We feel more put together having things that are new and matching. We haven't really noticed Mystic or Addy moping around now that Bubs has been away since Monday, but our attitude toward them has changed. Before we would push one away for purring too loud, now we're letting them sit with us as much as they want.

Today's picture is our first family picture after Bubsy left us.

Day 4: Memorial

Bubsy [Halbasch-Wenberg] Green
1994-2010

This morning Eric and I said our goodbyes to Bubsy. He spent Monday, Tuesday, and this morning on IV fluids, and was still unable to move or produce more than a weak meow. He had a long life and was always surrounded by family. He has gotten to live with so many different people in my family and I am glad that he and his sister, Mystic, were able to come live with me when I went to college. Bubsy and Addy were cuddle buddies, so he was always snuggled up to someone. Finally, Eric and I are glad that he made it this long, and was able to hold on until after our wedding so that he could also become a "Green."

We didn't have digital cameras when he was young, but here are pictures from the last 5-10 years.

At one point in time, Bubsy was bigger than the new puppy, Duke.
He always liked to sleep in boxes, especially those that were too small for him.
He wasn't terribly fond of swimming or bathing, but he was always a good sport.
Bubsy could often be found in the strangest places.
...and the strangest postions.
He loved his kitten Addy,
and especially loved his sister, Mystic.
I'm sorry that we couldn't do more for you, but I know that you were loved and that we did all that we could.
Now please don't tell anyone about my platform tennis shoes... oops!
Always a handsome orange guy.
He and Addy were especially close,
He bathed Addy when she was too lazy to do it herself. And he allowed her to use him as a pillow night or day.
Eric says that he cleaned up nicely to take Addy out on dates. He definitely tolerated us playing dress-up with him, and once won a $25 gift card to PetCo for a Halloween pet costume contest.
The date on this is wrong, but Addy has definitely been sad sleeping alone for the past few days.
They would hug each other all night if left uninterrupted.
...and pose for as many pictures as we would snap.
But he also loved finding other squishy things to be pillows for himself.
He usually slept "Superman" style, with one or both arms out in front of him.
Some of his favorite times were in the bathroom, eating...
...and sleeping in the bathtub.
We are a crazy family, but we love each other.
...and it won't be the same without you, Bubsy. We love you and we miss you.
We'll catch ya on the flip side!

Day 3: Bubsy

Yesterday I had mentioned that yesterday was full of bad news and didn't elaborate on what any of it was. When we made it home on Monday, around 1pm, we discovered that we had a very sick cat on our hands. My 16 year old cat, Bubsy, was unresponsive and couldn't move on his own. Luckily we live 1 mile from a vet and he was in their hands in less than 5 minutes. He has advanced kidney disease and isn't doing well, we decided to have him hospitalized and treated for 2 days and then tomorrow they will run some new bloodwork to find out if he will be healthy enough to come home.

This picture is a few weeks old of Mystic [the brown/black cat] and Bubsy [orange] cuddling on the bed. They are nearly 17 years old and brother/sister.

Sadly, the first paperwork that I filled out as "Mrs. Green" was to admit my baby to the vet. But we know he's being well taken care of.

Day 2: Presents!

Today was a rough day, filled with errands and bad news, but we made it through! I'll share a happy picture to make up for the roughness of the day:

We spent the evening opening up gifts - a few at my parents house, a few at his parents house, and the rest back at our house. Thanks to everyone, we can't wait to put these to use!

Day 1: We're Married!

I've seen some really cool "365 Blogs" where the blogger posts a picture every day for a year. I immediately thought this would be a fantastic way to document and share our first year of marriage with our friends and family. Starting today, Eric and I will [attempt to] post photos of us and of things going on in the first year of our lives as husband and wife.
The wedding was a great party and we really enjoyed it. Eric and I were both really excited to bring both of our families together for the event.

Day 1, and I'm sure many more will be, is too cool for just one photo. So I'll share my 2 favorites so far:

This was the first married shot that either of us saw, and I love it!

...and second, we had a really great photo booth at the reception.
