I'll be the primary blogger on here, but you may see an occasional post from my new husband, Eric.
I never know where to start with an "About Me" section. Family is the most broad topic that comes to mind. I grew up all over the place while my mom was in the Air Force. In 4th grade I settled into the first of 3 houses in Olathe, KS. At various times I lived with my mom and bio-dad, my grandparents and various aunts/uncles, and my mom and stepdad. I was usually accompanied by my younger brother and sister.
In 2003, I graduated from Olathe East High School and went to school part time while working as a para in the Blue Valley School District. In 2005, I moved to Lawrence, KS with my then-boyfriend to start school at KU. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Education in May of 2008, and was licensed to teach students with and without disabilities from birth through 3rd grade. I'm currently working toward my Masters of Science in Education, for a degree in Functional Special Education.
During the 2009-2010 school year I taught at Hillcrest Elementary in the Lawrence School District as a 3rd and 4th grade Special Education teacher. For the 2010-2011 school year I will stay in Lawrence, but move to Prairie Park Elementary as a Primary Special Education Teacher. I'm excited at the opportunity to work with K-2 kids and my ultimate goal is to teach in an Early Childhood Special Education classroom that targets kids from 3-5 years old.
I don't have a lot of free time, so I don't keep up with many hobbies. I do like to watch movies and TV shows, but I LOVE the freedom of not having cable. If we had cable, I would be glued to the TV every waking moment. I like to read, but it is tough to find something that really sparks my interest. I especially like puzzles - things like sudoku or word puzzles, Dr. Mario, etc. Solving problems really gets my mind going. I also like to walk, run, and bike, but have a hard time getting motivated to do it all.
The other important things in my life are my husband - Eric, our cats - Mystic and Addy, and things that Eric and I like to do together. All of those have their own pages, so it's time for you to move on!
