Day 238: Pandemic!

Here comes the third edition of "Game Night with The Edwards'"!  My impression was that it was starting at 5 and that Kristie and Eric would be there closer to 9-10 after they got off work.  Later I invited Shannon who also wouldn't make it out until 9-10.  Steven and Leslie said they would be there between 7-8, and Rob had work until later as well.  So it was down to me, Ryan, Alison, and Zach.  I showed up right on time at 5 and sent Ali a text around 5:45 asking when she would get there - and she said around 7, yikes!  

So Ryan and I ended up playing Dominion, which was really interesting.  As we finished up that game, his friends - Bud, Stephanie, and Marissa, showed up.  This was followed by a steady flow of 1-2 people showing up every 20 minutes until everyone was there.  We played a round of Nightmare Before Christmas Yahtzee, Fluxx, Pandemic, and some DDR.  

I really liked meeting Bud & Stephanie, and the whole night played out as another grand success!  Happy Birthday Ryan!

Success!  We beat it on our first try!  Shame on Ryan for trying to hide!

Day 237: Reading

I don't generally create a list of New Year's Resolutions, but this year I've decided to read more and keep track of all the books I read.  I sort of fell out of love with reading when it became a source of work in junior high and high school.  But Eric always has a book in his hands, so I thought this would be a nice hobby to take up.  We spent most of the night reading, pausing only to make dinner and talk about interesting things happening in our books.  This is such a change from our first year or two together - where we spent free time watching TV or playing video games together.  We definitely still do those things, but this is definitely the most relaxing way to end the night (though it often keeps up past my bedtime..."just one more chapter!").

I've already read 11 books this year!  Eric is on number 6.

Day 236: How Relaxing

After a long day at work, Eric is soothed by melting into some video games...while Mystic falls into a relaxing sleep just by being near us.  This is a pretty typical view around 11pm in the Green household...

Eric prefers to sit close enough to the TV that he actually has to turn his head to scan the screen...

Day 235: Black Violin

Field trip day!  All of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students in Lawrence got to go to the Lied Center to see a group called Black Violin, and I got to accompany one of my students.  This group is a DJ, violin, and electric viola - they play a mish mash of hip hop and classical music, and they're fantastic!

Day 234: Nap Time

Addy has been particularly good since we got back from Mexico (knock on wood!).  She hasn't been crying and scratching at our door if it's closed, not going to the bathroom anywhere except the litter box, and being really cuddly and happy.  She's glad that we've been working on laundry because I left her with this comfy little bed...

Day 233: KU Flash Mob

Tonight KU played MU at Allen Fieldhouse and we won 103-86.  We've only lost one game this season, and it was following the tragedy of Thomas Robinson's mother passing away only 2 days before.  Unfortunately that broke the  home court winning streak, but KU had their hearts in another place.  I was listening to this game on the radio at home and Eric listened on the radio at work - we both heard the announcers talking about a flash mob.  We didn't know what they were talking about until later tonight when this video started making the rounds on Facebook.

Day 232: A Super Day

Eric and I had a nice relaxing, though early, morning with Andrew before we even got out of bed.  Then we hurriedly packed up and left for chruch and the rest of our day.  Last night I made two chicken pot pies - one for our freezer and one for a family that just brought home their baby this week.  We stopped by their home in Gardner to drop off their dinner before going to church. 

After church, Eric, Andrew and I walked out back to see Grammy's snow covered tree, and to unbury her plaque.  Then we went to spend an hour or so with Mom, Alan, and Kris.  Andrew gobbled up his lunch and alternated between taking a bite and sharing with Juneau.  Then we took off to Phil & Edie's house to watch the Superbowl.  We stood around the kitchen and living room snacking, drinking, laughing, and chasing Andrew. 

Edie spent her evening upstairs working on some tests and studying, everyone else (Phillip, Paul, Steven, Grant, Leslie, Eric, Andrew, and me) was downstairs watching the TV.  We enjoyed most of the commercials and heckled the entire halftime show.  I rooted for Greenbay the whole time, while Eric opted to cheer for "the offense", haha!  Nobody was surprised that the Packers took it home, and we were happy to drop Andrew off with Sarah so we could go home and sleep!

 I dug out her plaque - she's got lots of ribbons from many different people.
