Day 53: First Day of School!

Today was my students first day back to school, a really early start in Lawrence.  I have 7 students this year, but I think they will still be quite a handful.  I spent nearly all day with one student, and only met my other kids for a few minutes each.  I stayed at school until nearly 7pm preparing materials for my really high needs student.

I would have gone home closer to 5pm, but there was a torrential storm that had the rain going sideways and I figured I would wait it out.  While waiting, the back foyer of the school flooded and my classroom had a major leak.  I had to move an entire shelf out of my room to prevent my materials from getting ruined.

Across the street from the school a tree lost a large branch.

Another house across the street from my school lost the entire tree.

Day 27: It Can Only Get Better [knock on wood]

We discovered today that the guy who has been rented our apartment isn't interested in any of the other properties.  So we have 2 weeks to find a new place to live.  BUT!  We really have to wait until Monday to start applying because there is still a chance we can stay.  There is someone in a 3 bedroom apartment moving out, and someone in a two bedroom apartment that wants a three bedroom apartment.  If they can both move early, then the guy who has our place will be given the two bedroom that would then be vacant.  We find out if this is possible on Monday.

We drove to DeSoto and found the perfect apartments, lots of space, washer/dryer hookups, close to the highway, and only $499 per month!  Turns out it is low income housing and. without even combining our incomes, I make too much for us to qualify.  The other apartments in DeSoto are a total dump - it's a white trash playground with street names like Sunshine Lane, Strawberry Road, and Blueberry Ave.  I'm not kidding.

In the afternoon, Eric went to work and I had Ashley come over to help me start packing and moving things to the storage unit that I just rented.  In ended up hailing while we were filling out paperwork for the storage unit, and Ashley got hit on the way to her car and ended up with a welt on her arm.

There was a really nice rainbow after the storm was over.

If you look at the very center of the picture, you can see her baby hail welt.

The evening went lots better.  I was sick, throwing up and a fever over 100, but we carried out our plans for a surprise "pool" party for Eric.  Lots of people joined us at The Pool Room for drinks and billiards.  I ended up going home sick after just a little while, but from what I hear everyone had a great time!

Me losing, but only by one ball!
