Day 362: Clean Carpets!

We haven't had people over to our house in ages, mostly because our apartment smells terrible!  With Bubsy and Mystic both having advanced kidney disease, Bubsy had, and Mystic has a problem making it to the litter box.  The Stanley Steemer guys said the stains aren't coming out, but that the smell should be under control now!

Eric and I moved the furniture BACK into place, and had a fully tech night - blogging, internet shopping, and Netflix!

Day 361: No Tech Night!

We are getting our carpets professionally cleaned tomorrow, so we have moved ALL of the furniture out of the dining room, living room, and hallway.  This means that our kitchen has shelves and couches in it, and the office is completely packed with the rest of the stuff...including...dun dun DUN!!!!!!!...the TV!

This prompted our first official "Tech Free Night"!  We started by laying on the floor for awhile trying to figure out just what to do without TV.  We started off with one of our combo roller blading/bike walks - it was super hot out, so we spent more time laying on the floor cooling off after we got home.  Then we had dinner at Subway and tried the new Turkey Bacon Avocadooohhhh sandwich, yum!  Finally we went to bed early and read for over an hour.  I finished a book, and got 50 pages into my next book!

Day 334: More Field Trips, Grilling, and Laundry!

I got to go on a field trip to the capital with my 4th grade class today. It was a lot more interesting than last years 4th grade field trip, because we went to a museum for a scavenger hunt after the tour of the capitol building. I was exhausted so I went to sleep as soon as I got home, well...after I out out another load of laundry on our line.

Eric got trained on the out of town route at work today. He'll be delivering parts to Gardner and Paola one or two weekends each month. Then he had his last class at JCCC before graduation!

After he got home from class, I got up and we grilled some burgers and watched Scrubs for the rest of the night. Goooooooodnight!

Day 299: Adult Swim and Putting

After I got out of school today I volunteered at a disability resources community expo, and then had a dress rehearsal for the Lawrence Schools Foundation Follies at Liberty Hall.  This meant that after a full day at school I volunteered from 4-6, and had the rehearsal at 8:15.  I didn't want to waste the gas on going home, just to have to come back to Lawrence, so I decided to walk around on Mass Street.  There was some music coming from 9th street, and when I went to explore what was going on I was greeted with a giant "Carl" from Aqua Teen Hunger Force!

It turns out there was an Adult Swim Block Party - live music, free t-shirts, free 5-hour energy, free claw and plinko games, and sponsor people handing out even more free stuff.  The party was rained out - so I got some 3 Spoons Frozen Yogurt and watched other acts rehearse at Liberty Hall until it was my groups turn.

When Eric got home from class he rushed back out to his car for a "surprise", and came back inside with his dad's golf clubs.  We rummaged through the bag and each got a putter, got two cups from the cabinets, and dumped out a whole bag of golf balls.  We spent the next hour putting at each other (we each had a cup near us for the other person to putt into).  I perfected a move that I call "The Reload" where I hit the door frame and the ball bounces back to me to try again!

I got an Aqua Teen Hunger Force t-shirt for Eric, two Squidbillies drink koozies, a prize ribbon, and a water bottle.  Nothing too exciting, but it was all free!

Addy is initially not terribly amused that we are golfing - she gets much more interested when the balls start rolling around the house!

Day 261: A Night Off

Eric and I had plans to go look at an apartment in Lenexa tonight - but the complex didn't have the 1 bedroom ready for viewing yet.  So instead, we got to stay home and spend a whole afternoon and evening together!  We took Addy on a walk and watched Grown Ups, which we would give 2.5/5 stars.  The movie seemed mostly like they just filmed a bunch of comedians hanging out, rather than a really cohesive script.  Then I took a nice long nap on the couch while Eric played Operation Flashpoint with Steven and Grant.  After I woke up, Eric made us a delicious dinner of chicken alfredo with cavatappi pasta and we watched a few hours of Scrubs.  Ahhhh, relaxation!

Day 245: Cats & Chinese Food

Eric got some really good honey teriyaki marinade a few weeks ago, so tonight I stir fried the chicken, onions, red bell pepper, and broccoli, and served with our jasmine rice.  Yum, yum, yum!  We watched some TV and had a nice relaxing evening!  Netflix has gotten to the point that it's as good as TV - we've got 3rd Rock From The Sun, Scrubs, That 70's Show, Parks and Rec, Family Guy, Futurama, and more!

Day 243: Must be Thursday

T'was a typical Thursday, not much going down; just Addy chasing the laser pointer 'round. Ok so I can barely rhyme and it's the wrong time of year. The point is that Thursdays in the Green family are all about the same for this semester. Jess works, I go to class and the gym then come home and we make dinner and watch something for a bit. Ah, but not today. Today before class I happened to check my school email and discover I'd been dropped from my gym class. I had a warning from my instructor saying to attend by the 11th or I'd be dropped. Well that's no problem, I went on the 10th. But what's this? Another email saying I've been dropped anyway... So I went out to JCCC early to sort it out and eventually ended up with some paperwork I have to get signed by a couple higher-ups and return within a week. -Sigh- I guess I'll get to 20 visits this semester somehow. Oh, and I got a new school ID made for free since it was my first one this year (actually since I started at JCCC), and I managed to lose my old one for the umpteenth time.

Day 199: Can You Hear Me Now?

Huzzah!  We finally got a surround sound system for our 46" LCD TV!  It seems like we have been extremely money conscious this past year - but we have been able to pay off debt and get some cool things for ourselves.  I wouldn't say that we are going at this quite as hard as Dave Ramsey might recommend if we keep getting new "toys", but we have a good defense!  We didn't feel right spending wedding and Christmas gift money all on debt.  That isn't to say that we didn't finish paying off my credit card with wedding money and that we didn't make a bonus payment toward my car with Christmas money, but we have allowed for ourselves to actually get some gifts!

We spent a week or so researching various speaker systems and decided on a Sony 5.1 Surround Sound System without a DVD or Blu Ray Player.  We didn't want to spend extra money on the DVD player because we've already got the PS3.  It took us about an hour to set it up last night, because I had to run wires around the room for the two rear speakers.  In the end, we knew that we were short and HDMI cable (which we ordered online for $6) and could only listen to the radio or PS 3 through the front two speakers.  But it was really nice to hear how much better these are than the TV speakers, and to hear the subwoofer boom!

Day 171: Lazy Nights are the Best!

I cherish these nights where we can just chill with each other and the cats.  Often times we occupy ourselves with separate computers, games, or books.  It seems strange, but it's nice for us to be able to enjoy our own things while talking.  In fact, most nights it looks something like this...

Day 170: Do We Look Lost?

[cough-cough] The second-to-last disc of the last season of Lost has been sitting on our TV cabinet since October 13th... We just couldn't bring ourselves to end it/we just weren't in the mood for a serious weird drama.  Tonight we finally started the journey to the end! 

I can't believe that the "S" in Lost was messed up through all of the seasons!  How can they have not fixed something like that?!

Day 146: Bit of a Breather

Today was kind of nice. Nothing particularly exciting happened, and sometimes that's for the best. Jess had conferences over the last couple days at school and didn't have school today so we slept in. We finally got up around 11ish and hung out about the house for a bit. We did some cleaning, dishes and laundry, etc. It was a weird day for me too, as I was scheduled to work at 2:30 instead of noon as usual. It didn't change the course of the day much, just altered the feel of it a bit. After I got off work, we hung out watching tv for a little while, and cuddling with the cats. That's all, folks.

Day 137: No More Office!

Tonight, Eric and I watched the last episode of The Office until the current season comes out on Netflix, sad day!  Then we watched some episodes of 30 Rock, and enjoyed being around the house.  Mystic was her usually cuddly self on the couches with us, but Addy pouted on the dresser all night long! But her pouting was awfully cute!

Day 130: Romantic Dinner Date

I worked until 6pm again tonight, so I did a little cleaning and relaxing before Eric got home around 8:30.  I told him that we were going out to dinner and he could choose between Sonic and Dairy Queen!  We ended up walking into DQ just steps ahead of a 30 girl volleyball team!  It was quite cold out, and Eric still got ice cream!

After we got our order, we proceeded with the typical Green weeknight - laying on the couches watching TV!  Tonight we started watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.  I was rapidly getting too tired to watch, and knew I'd have to cut the movie short.  After the scene where Harry opens the golden egg in the prefect bath, I decided to take my own bath and go to sleep.

Eric's pumpkin is the only one surviving!  The cats look like someone punched them in the face while they were eating lemons, and my pumpkin is slowly turning into a black hole!

Day 129: Spontaneous Cooking

I was really motivated today and stayed at work until 6pm being quite productive.  Eric didn't have class today and I was curious why he hadn't called or texted, wondering why I was so late.  I walked in the front door at 6:10 and he was out cold on the couch.  I woke him up and told him to chill on the couch and play on the computer while I made dinner.  We haven't been cooking hardly at all lately, and didn't have a lot of options in the cabinets.  With a tornado of ingredients flying around, I had dinner served 25 minutes later!  Hand Breaded Chicken Parmesan without a recipe!  I was super impressed with my timing and being able to get it all done at once.  Plus, the chicken was amazing!

Then we watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.  We're got 2 more movies and 6 more chapters of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to listen to before the movie comes out - yahoo!  I was looking at the website So Much Pun and submitted a picture, inspired by the movie!

Day 128: Case of the Mondays

Booo, Eric and I both had our late classes tonight.  I was at mine until around 8:30 and Eric didn't get home until after 9.  We were both exhausted and just hung out to watch some episodes of 30 Rock and The Office.  We are mere episodes away from finishing the most current seasons of each of those - oh no!


Eric is still on track to graduate in the spring - he'll need one or two more classes.  I, however, won't be graduating in the spring - double boo!  I had an advising meeting after my class tonight and learned getting a masters degree isn't the same as getting a bachelors.  With the bachelors, you can take one or two classes in the summer and still "graduate" in the spring".  With my masters, I have to actually finish my project before I can graduate.  So I'll be getting my masters degree next year because I'm starting my project over the summer.

Day 112: A Long Day

We woke up pretty late today, but had time to make pancakes before Eric left for work.  Today we used peanut butter and Grammy's blackberry jelly to color/flavor our pancakes.  While Eric was at work, I finally tackled our stack of un-sorted/shredded/trashed paperwork.  I got through about a quarter of it, but it's a start!  I also went in to school for about an hour to work on a communication device for one of my students.  Eric brought me dinner because I had a killer migraine, but it wasn't so bad after resting for an hour or so. We spent the rest of the night watching 30 Rock and The Office - we're halfway through the most recent season of both of those... what will we do when they're through?!

Day 105: KC Ren Fest 2.0

Steven and Leslie invited us out to the KC Ren Fest today and we had an awesome time!  It was pretty darn cold, so I ended up putting a pair of Eric's pants on underneath my dress.  We did some walking, shopping, garlic eating, sheep and llama petting, and more!  

Also, after Eric got home from work tonight we decided that we were finally ready for the last EVER episode of LOST, which has been sitting on our TV stand for a week now.  But alas, the preview was confusing because I bumped up the season on Netflix in the wrong order, and we still have another disc to watch!  Yay!
